Cathcart Cattle Company is a first-generation farm jointly owned and operated by brothers Jacob and Austin Cathcart. Our operation includes four key areas of focus: a commercial beef cattle herd, hay sales, direct-to-consumer beef sales, and custom-hire agricultural services.
Cathcart Cattle Today
Cathcart Cattle Company was founded in 2020 when Jacob and Austin graduated from Clemson University. Owning and operating a cattle farm of their own had always been a dream the brothers shared. They grew up around cattle, spending summers and weekends helping their Papa on his small farm. The brothers purchased their first cattle in August of 2016 — two heifers from their grandfather’s herd.
From this small start with no land, no equipment, and only two cows, Jacob and Austin have worked tirelessly to grow the farm into what it is today— built on faith, hard work, and a commitment to doing things the right way.
Cathcart Cattle Beginnings
Jacob grew up with a love for agriculture, always wanting to spend as much time as possible with his Papa on the farm. He got his start in the agriculture industry in high school, where he began raising and showing meat goats as an FFA project. Over the next three years, Jacob and his brother Austin grew the herd and eventually dispersed it prior to leaving for Clemson, using the proceeds to purchase their first two beef heifers.
While at Clemson, Jacob worked at the University Beef Cattle Farm. He credits much of his foundational knowledge of beef cattle production, animal health, and herd management to the mentors who invested in him during that time. Jacob graduated from Clemson in 2020 with a B.S. in Agricultural Education and in 2021 with an M.S. in Animal and Veterinary Sciences.
In 2021, Jacob married his high school sweetheart, Mary. They enjoy spending time together horseback riding and enjoying the outdoors with their Australian Shepherd, Bandit.
Alongside the farm, Jacob works at Newberry County Career Center as the Agriculture Education Instructor and FFA Advisor, where he has the opportunity to share his passion for agriculture with students each day.

Austin Cathcart
Austin Grew up with a love for the outdoors, and agriculture the same as his brother. Growing up Austin was heavily involved with his local boy scout troop and FFA Chapter, earning the rank of Eagle Scott and the American FFA Degree. This gave him the foundational skills that have built future success.
Austin attended Clemson University where he studied Agricultural education and Animal Science earning a B.S. and M.S during his time there. Austin was also involved in various extracurricular activities, he served as the 2016-2017 SCFFA State president, SC Farm Bureau youth Ambassador and worked at both the Clemson university Dairy and Beef Cattle Farms.
While serving as a SCFFA state officer Austin met his best friend, Audrey. At the time he did not know that she would eventually become his wife. Austin and Audrey married in 2022 and since then have spent their time working on the farm, traveling, and constantly laughing. Together they have two horses, a cat and two dogs.
Austin Currently works for AgSouth Farm Credit where he pursues his second passion in life, helping farmers reach their dreams. Austin enjoys finding creative financing solutions that maximize the opportunity his farm customers experience
